Are you looking for a place to retire or dreaming of a simpler life?

If so, then the mountains of western North Carolina or north Georgia may be the place for you!

Jim Welling and MountainDigs.Com will help you find that perfect place nestled in the mountains with an enchanted view or perhaps property on a lake, stream, or creek.

Hayesville is the “Best Kept Secret” in North Carolina, and is located in the southwestern part of the state.

Hayesville is the county seat of Clay County, containing 220 square miles with a population of 10,000.

The town lies in the southern Appalachian Mountains on a knoll overlooking the Hiawassee River, with a magnificent view of the mountains. Breathtaking scenery with lush forest, rich farmlands, rivers, streams and beautiful clear lakes will keep you mesmerized, take a piece of your soul and will encourage you to never leave. This scenic area is big enough to satisfy your every need, but small enough to get around quickly.   The close knit community with traditional values is best known for friendly residents, a quality of life that everyone dreams about, a picturesque location, good schools, low cost of living and clean air where you think you can touch the stars on a clear night.

Other communities in the area are Brasstown (home of the nationally known, John C. Campbell Folk School), Warne, and Murphy.  The neighboring communities of Georgia are Hiawassee, Young Harris and Blairsville. Hayesville also borders Lake Chatuge. Atlanta, Chattanooga and Ashville are within two hours driving distance.

The climate is generally mild year-round with warm days, cool evenings in the summer and occasional snowfall in the winter. The area is surrounded by the national forests which offer a wide variety of activities for the sportsmen and wildlife lovers.  There are over 50 miles of hiking and backpacking trails including the Appalachian Trail.  In addition, there is camping, boating, biking, and horseback riding, swimming and golfing. An extensive network of streams and rivers offer excellent trout and fly fishing opportunities, rafting, and canoeing.

Lake Chatuge was built by the Tennessee Valley Authority. It has 133 miles of shoreline and the water covers approximately 3700 acres at full peak. Divided by the state lines of North Carolina and Georgia state line, this cold-clear lake is in a setting much like the Swiss Alps, a gradual shoreline with a backdrop of the mountains and is one of the most sought after properties by investors.

Other Communities We Serve

Georgia: Blairsville, Blue Ridge, Ellijay, Hiawassee and Young Harris
